Research Questions

1) Why is there not more boarder security considering that immigrants take advantage of hospital systems, the deaths that are happening, and the trespassing that is taken place?

2) Why do some immigrants feel the need to kill, take advantage of people, or trespass on peoples land?

Human rights

I am interested in researching the crime that immigrants are doing to the US people living on the boarder and also how they use the medical hospitals, however never actually pay into to the system.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/16/us/16immig.html?ref=education

I want to explore more about how they are getting in and why they feel the need to hurt the people that live on the boarder.

Maus

I enjoyed the reading because of how it was set up in comic strips.  I had a few questions about it, about how they differenced people in concentration camps, and how Vladlek got called out. It reminded me of a speech that i heard in 8th grade about a women who was 8 years old in the holocaust and one of the guards brought her aside because she looked like the guards grandchild. She the guard hid her at her house. This suprised me but i thought it was interesting how the thought some people were better than others. I thought the families, the son of Vladelk would have known more about the holocaust because there were Jewish. I also always wondered why no one ever just commit sucided after going through all of the stuff they went through.

News in the Congo

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/10/01/congo.atrocities.un.report/index.html?iref=allsearch

I have been reading about the unnecessary rapes and killings that have been going on in the Congo. The number of deaths could possibility be up to a million people during the wars and different things. The United Nations issued a report that right against the killings and raping were against the Congo's peoples human rights, therefore it can not happen anymore. It goes alot towards the women of the Congo who were being killing and raped. They are trying to protect the women.

Mini Seminar

My favorite part of the discussion was talking about how king leopold  treated the Africans, like how he manupliated them. I also like the dicussion part about how leopold got the men over to the congo to do these terrible actions to the Africans. I still wonder why no one stood up and said that what was going on over there was not right. However, I did like the part of how we discussed of why people would not have done that.

I thought the book was good. However I got a little confused on who was who as I started to read in the chapters. On page 5 they talk about how the man were proud of there killing and they would go talk to newpapers about the killing they did, I am looking forward to see if any of those feelings about the killings change. I like the fact that the Europeans are called out for the crimes that they have done. I actually learned a lot from the chapter.

Why did the Eurpoeans feel the need to attack the slave trades?
why was there such hate against Africans?

I have learned more details about how the industrial revolution happened in Europe and how it affect many others. From CIA  Factbook I have learned a lot more about Pakistan and Afghanistan. I learned there population, dates of independence and how they were colonized. I also learned why the war in Iraq was officially called a war.
I would still like to learn more about how the pulling out of Iraq is going to work and rather it will happen or not. I would also like to know what happen after the year of 1914 with how Africa was run.
I would like to know if there was a vote to who was going to run each country that was split up by the government.

Current Event: Obama end of Combat misson in Iraq

Jenn Wilson

Source: Obama Declares an End to Combat Mission in Iraq, Helene Cooper and Sheryl Gay Stolberg, New York Times, August 31 2010.

Summary: Obama made a announcement that the US will be ending the war in Iraq, due to the fact that we have many domestic problems that need to be taking care of. Obama says his focus will be put on bad economy. He said he will help to rebuild a strong government, however he says it is up to the Iraqies to rebuild there government system. Obamas main reason for getting out of the war is the issues that are going on in the united states. Those issues will become the dominate issues for Obama. The republicans are not exactly happy with Obamas issues. The republicans feel like Obama is not giving the solider's enough credit for there work and hard dedication for our country. Obama repeats the amount of time the war has been going on in Iraq, which is 7 years and also repeats how much money we have spent, and according to republicans, he does not give the soliders enough credit.

Analysis: The decision that Obama made about ending the war in Iraq affects many people. It could affect the families who have family members in the war or the economy. This is a war that has been going on for a long time, and to have it come to an end, unexpected things happen. This article is interesting because  of how this war started and the unknowing of what is going to happen now that the war is ending.  This article is something that should be known to everyone because of the history of it, and know what happen in the past, you will have an understand of why things are happenning the way they are because of what happen in the past. I think this article is something for everyone to be aware of, rather you are an Obama fan or not. To me, if someone picked up this article and did not know much about Obama, they may think that Obama does not have much respect for the soldiers, because even though he does thank them, he also complains alot about how much money was spent and how he does not agree with the war beginning in the first place. Everyone has different opinions about the war, everyone should be aware of what is going on in Iraq and now that we are not in the war anymore. This article could affect everyone, no matter what age because ending the war could possiably change the economy for everyone, wather its good or bad and could also affect the economy or how the Iraqies treat us in the future years.

Children in China

  1. What's being discussed in this article? The topic being discussed is about the number of children that a family can have in China. Some families can have more than 1, but never more than 2. The government is trying to distinguish between how many families can have 1 child and how many families can have more than one child. The man in the article had a baby girl but wanted a baby boy so bad. So his wife and him had another baby, that they were not suppose to have and he refused to give it up. He refused to make his wife have an abortion and did not listen to the government. His wife had a baby girl, but they named her a name that mean, "like a boy".
  1. When did the event happen? (Is this breaking news or something that's been analyzed and discussed for a while?)This is not breaking news, it is a topic that has been discussed for many years in China. For many years people have been complaining about how many children they are allowed to have. For 25 years now people have been trying to get a two-child policy in China, however the date to change this keeps getting pushed back. It was suppose to change sooner, around 2010, however the government has said nothing will change until at least 2015.
  1. What questions do you have that would help make this article make more sense to you? What more do you need to learn about to be able to report on this event?
I need to learn more about how the decision is made between who can have 2 kids and who can have only 1.  I also would like to know how the guy was getting around not paying the government because they were fining him for having more than 1 child.

Events that I remember..

9/11 was a the biggest event that has changed how the United States works that i remember many details about. On that morning i was getting ready to go to school when my dads worker called him and told him to turn on the tv. My dad turned it on and my brother and i watched the tv some, however did not completely understand what was going on. I had to go to school and at school my teachers turned it on the tv's however they made us turn it off around lunch time. I remember this event so well because of how it shaped our country. I remember seeing the twin towers burn because it was different than anything else i have seen before, and as i got older to saw the affects of it. I remember it so much because of the very visual images that were shown of the people who died.

Hurriane Katrina was a even that i remember because of all the water damage that was done to a huge city. I remember hearing about it for days on the radio and news. I remember hearing the warnings telling people to get out of the city because of the big storm that was being tracked. I remember seeing interviews with people crying because they didnt want to leave the city or come home to there home being destroyed. This event is so vivid in my mind because of all the damage that was done to people homes and how it tore families apart. I remember it to this day also because of the political arguments that came from the floods. The political arguments and complaints that took place about how George W Bush  handled the situation.

The kidnapping that Micheal Devlin did will always be in my mind because being around the kids age that got kidnapped makes it hit closer to home. I remember i was driving to my friends house with my dad and we heard it on the radio that they found that kids that he had kidnapped. When we got to my friends how we turned on the tv right away and watched the news. On the news they walked the kids out of the apartment and were taking Michael to jail. I will always remember this because not to long after i ordered an imos pizza and i remember thinking that micheal worked for imos! Also, i just remember thinking the older kid was around my age and it made me remember the story more because it could happen to me. I also remember watching the news and seeing how depressed the kids looked which made me feel worse for them, than i already did. I will always remember the abuse that the news said these kids went through, which is one reason the story stays in my mind.

What my parents remember:
When the man walked on the moon i was on vacation in colorado with my mom, aunt and my cousins. My mom made us watch it on tv and we watched the men walk on the moon. I remember it so well because they made us stop what we were doing and watch, and there was so much news made about it.

Ozzies homework when jack buck said go crazy folks go crazy, i remember this because we were at that game. We remember it because it became the phrase that Jack Buck was known by. That is why i remember it so much is because of the energy in the stadium and the that the cardinals won because of Ozzie's homerun!

President Nixon resigned i remember that vividly because i was on split shift and i did not start school tell 12:30, and i was at my friends watching tv and he announced. I remember my friends moms crying because i remember my when he waved after getting into the helicopter and there were taking him to an air force base. I remember it so much because it is the only president that resigned during my life so far and it was all over the news before, with the watergate scandle and it was in the news for a long time after.
